State-wide swine flu infections are on the rise, with Pune seeing the highest cases and deaths.

At least 1,449 people have been diagnosed with swine flu in Maharashtra as of mid-August; 43 of these patients have passed away as a result of the illness.

The number of swine flu cases in Maharashtra has significantly increased, with the cities with the largest numbers of infections being Pune, Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, Kolhapur, and Nashik.

At least 1,449 people have been found to have the swine flu in the state as of mid-August; 43 of these individuals had passed away from the illness. Pune had 13 fatalities, followed by Nashik (6), Thane (5), and Nagpur (3). (4).

Since the 2009 pandemic, 3,735 people in Maharashtra have passed away from the A (H1N1) virus (swine flu). In the past 13 years, approximately 35,407 people have contracted the swine flu, according to a state health agency estimate. This year, Mumbai (291) and Thane (245) have recorded the most cases of the virus, with Pune reporting 361 total.

According to Dr. Pradeep Awate, the Maharashtra surveillance officer, "Maharashtra's whole monitoring and laboratory network has been frequently picking up instances - whether it Covid or swine flu." According to him, swine flu has now spread to all age groups and is primarily fatal to those with co-morbid diseases.

Experts, including Dr. Ameet Dravid, a head intensivist at Noble Hospital, stated that an "immunity wall" had been built against coronavirus sickness with exposure to infection and vaccination in light of the prevalence of Covid infection over the past two years.

For instance, out of the 15 patients in Noble Hospital's intensive care unit, one has Covid and 14 have the H1N1 virus. According to Dr. Dravid, we are also seeing H1N1 patients with bilateral pneumonia and severe acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Five patients at KEM Hospital have pneumonia, and according to Dr. Pradeep D'Costa, chief intensivist, three of them have the swine flu, one has Covid, and the other has another viral or bacterial illness. Fever, sore throat, and body aches are the typical signs of swine flu.

Data from the state health department show that Maharashtra saw 5,278 H1N1 infections and 268 fatalities in 2009. Also in 2010, there were 6,118 cases and 669 fatalities. Numbers decreased throughout the subsequent years. During the swine flu pandemic of 2015, there were 8,583 cases and 905 fatalities. After a brief break in 2016, the state registered 6,144 cases and 778 fatalities, 2,594 cases and 462 deaths, and 2,287 cases and 246 deaths in subsequent years. There were only a few deaths in 2020 and 2021, but this year has seen 43 fatalities and 1,449 cases so far.

Experts recommend wearing masks because respiratory illnesses thrive more during the monsoon. Immunologist Dr. Vineeta Bal of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) suggested that it would be ideal for the government to offer some rules on masking.

There has been a demand to control the costs of laboratory testing to identify the infection as H1N1 cases have increased in several locations. A combined test for Covid-19, swine flu, and common influenza currently costs no less than Rs 6,000, making it unaffordable for a substantial portion of the population. Under the condition of anonymity, a patient's relative remarked, "It is not practicable then if someone in the family gets ill with swine flu and others need to get tested as well.
